Mark Loewen pracuje na Uniwersytecie w Utah. Swoje badania prowadzi nad jurajskimi oraz kredowymi dinozaurami, a w szczególności nad taksonomią, ewolucją oraz biogeografią teropodów i ceratopsów. Jest on autorem oraz współautorem 13 publikacji nazywających nowe dinozaury.Jest on profesorem nadzwyczajnym oraz wykładowcą geologii i geofizyki na Uniwersytecie w Utah. Prowadzi on również popularne zajęcia World of Dinosaurs and Science in Cinema classes. Jako pracownik naukowy jest związany z Muzeum Historii Naturalnej w Utah (UMMH), Muzeum Przyrody i Nauki w Denver (Denver Museum of Nature and Science) oraz Instytutem Badań nad Ewolucją w Uniwersytecie Witwatersrand znajdującym się w RPA.
